There are an estimated 153 million orphans around the world, living in institutions, and receiving minimal care. (UNICEF-02/2011) “Alejandro” is just one of those children who has had a difficult, traumatic life, moving from place to place, having no immediate family able or willing to care for him.
International Adoption Costs
When we first learned about the cost of an international adoption, we were overwhelmed. While costs vary, we expect it could cost up to $36,000. If we have to, we’ll empty our bank accounts to bring him home, but it might not be enough.
Alejandro is Waiting
The alternative is to wait – wait while our funds slowly accrue, wait while he gets older, languishing in an institution waiting to come home.
How to Donate
You can help in two ways – by sharing our posts and by sharing the costs to bring “Alejandro” home. We’ve set up a Facebook fundraiser to make contributing easier. If you prefer to donate in another way, feel free to message us using the Contact form.
Contributions are used to pay a number of professionals, including lawyers, translators, and social workers. Colombia also requires that we travel to and stay in country for at least three weeks to finalize the adoption. Facebook uses Stripe to facilitate secure credit card transactions and deducts 2.9% plus $0.30 from each donation to cover these costs.
